Miss Lovatt’s Class

Welcome to our class page!

Key information

Mrs Miles (TA)  and Mr Warrington (Trainee TA) support the class during morning sessions and Mrs Miles provides specific intervention support to children two afternoons a week.

PE days may vary but we strive to complete an indoor and outdoor session each week. Please bring PE kits in on a Monday.

Homework is given out on a Friday to be returned by the following Wednesday. Spellings are tested on a Wednesday and your child will have a focus times table to be supported at home.

Reading books are changed Monday and Thursday. They can be brought in on other days but there may not be time to change them. Free readers should complete their own record of reading and bring in diaries at least weekly.

Year 3 Violin lessons are on a Tuesday morning. Violins can be brought in on a Monday.

Please do not hesitate to contact Miss Lovatt if you have any questions.

Spring Term 2017

We are going to be kept very busy this term with Shakespeare as the overall theme for the class. We will look at the play ‘Twelfth Night’ and the idea of identity, twins and family. Year 4s will access the original script, whereas the Year 3s will look at the story version. The Year 4s will begin the Shakespeare project (a series of drama workshops that incorporate music, dance and writing in character in response to events) ready to devise their piece to perform at the New Vic Theatre, as part of a Shakespeare festival.

In art Year 3s will complete self portraits and the Year 4s will look at the Tudor method of ‘pouncing’ to create a copy of Shakespeare’s portrait. Alongside looking at our own identity, we will investigate who Shakespeare was, where he came from and Tudor theatre. The Year 3s will look at making comparisons, from a historical and geographical view point. We will also be exploring habitats, plants and animals in our science based work.

The Year 3s are also expected to continue their fantastic progress in violin playing.

Autumn Term 2016

In the Autumn Term we read ‘Pumpkin Soup’ and had fun making our own soup, created our class rules and looked at the 10 commandments and the 5 pillars of Islam, as rules from a religion.

The book ‘Escape from Pompeii’ gave us an exciting glimpse into volcanoes and Roman history and we all enjoyed singing along to the disney pixar short called ‘Lava’. A Roman morning also gave us the chance to have a go at a variety of Roman jobs and crafts, as well as giving the teachers an excuse to dress up!

In science we looked at magnets and forces, which linked to our story ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. This led us to research and create our very own robots and factfiles. We looked at Eric Joyners art and created our own sketches, pictures and paintings.

The Year 3s did a fantastic assembly where they showed off their developing violin skills and many children in the class were also part of the choir which successfully performed christmas songs at Wallhill care home. The term was then finished with a trip to the theatre to watch ‘The Snow Queen’, which was given positive reviews from the children.
