Spring Term 2017
During this half term our learning will centre around China. Our class book is ‘The Willow Pattern story’. We are going to be focusing on the traditions in China and learning about the location of the country on a world map. During science we will be looking at the weather in China compared to the UK. We will also be looking at the different animals and their habitats in these two areas. We will be designing and making a healthy stir fry. To link in with the celebrations for Chinese New Year we will be having a celebration in the classroom. Our role play area has turned into a Chinese takeaway restaurant, where the children will have a chance to make their own Chinese dish. Our Art will link to the famous local person, Josiah Wedgwood. In our Maths we will continue to develop and apply our skills in Place Value, Addition & Subtraction, Mass, 3D shape, Money, Multiplication & Division. In our writing we will be learning how to write an adventure story and will be writing postcards from China.
Autumn Term 2016
During the Autumn term we were learning about ‘Mr Wolf’s Pancakes’, ‘Superworm’, Guy Fawkes and ‘The Flying Bath’. We witnessed a crash landing on the school field and also had a mysterious visit from Mr Wolf who left his pancakes on our classroom floor. During Art we worked hard on the different techniques in creating a portrait. In Maths we developed our skills and fluency in Place Value, Addition & Subtraction, Multiplication & Division, fractions and 2D shape. Alongside this we had a challenging Maths problem to solve each week. In our Writing we learnt how to write an information page and then created our own information book all about worms. We also wrote newspaper articles and chronological reports. In the lead up to Christmas we were busy reading poems and then had a go at writing our own.
We were very lucky to have a visit linked to our topic of Aeroplanes from a member of cabin crew and an ex pilot. The children were very engaged and asked some fantastic questions. Our trip to the theatre to see ‘The Snow Queen’ was enjoyed by all and was a great way to end the term.
