Spring Term 2017
As we begin the Spring term our learning will centre around China. Our class book is ‘The Willow Pattern’ story. We are going to be focusing on the traditions in China and learning about the location of the country on a world map. We will be having a go at creating a healthy stir fry, yum! To link in with the celebrations for Chinese New Year we will be having a celebration in the classroom. Our role play area has turned into a Chinese takeaway restaurant; I wonder what dishes the children will be delivering! Alongside this, our Art will link to the famous local person, Josiah Wedgwood. We will be getting messy creating our own clay cups. In our Maths we will continue to develop and apply our skills in the key areas: Place Value, Addition & Subtraction, Mass, 3D shape, Money, Multiplication & Division. In our writing we will be learning how to write an adventure story and will be writing postcards from China. We may even have a go at doing some Chinese writing! I’m sure it will be a very exciting and busy term for us all.
Autumn Term 2016
In the Autumn term we were extremely busy learning about Elmer, Superworm and The Flying Bath. We witnessed a crash landing on the school field, had a wormery in our classroom and received a letter from Elmer. During November, Guy Fawkes visited us to link with our learning. In Art we created some fantastic charcoal portraits and a giant collage Elmer. In Maths we developed our skills and fluency in Place Value, Addition & Subtraction, Multiplication & Division, fractions and 2D shape. Alongside this we had a challenging Maths problem to solve each week. In our Writing we learnt how to write an information page and then created our own information book all about worms. We also wrote newspaper articles and chronological reports. In the lead up to Christmas we were busy reading poems and then had a go at writing our own. The poems were great and the children all got very carried away with their new found rhyming skills! We were very lucky to have a visit linked to our topic of Aeroplanes from a member of cabin crew and an ex pilot, the children were captivated by what our visitors had to say. Our trip to the theatre to see The Snow Queen was enjoyed by all, especially those who had not been to the theatre before.
