At Woodcroft we strive to create a school which offers a friendly and secure environment, so that the children in our care can develop confidence, individuality and co-operative learning skills.
The Governor’s of the school work together with the Head teacher and our dedicated team of staff to deliver this vision for the whole school community.
In all types of schools, governing bodies have a strong focus on three core strategic functions as defined by the governors handbook to:-
- Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and
- Over see the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
To carry out this role effectively we have a clear organisation within the governing body linked to the schools self review and development planning process.
Full Governing Body meets once a term to bring together the work of the sub committees. The second meeting of the term is the official clerked meeting where we receive the Head teachers report on the school for the term and ensure the statutory responsibilities of the governing body are fulfilled. The first meeting of the term is less formal used for self review, training or to discuss specific development matters.
Strategic Committee meets once a term and the focus is our long term vision, ethos and direction of the school.
Curriculum Committee meets once a term to discuss progress on the all school developments related to teaching, learning and assessment. The committee also ensures that the school meets the legalities of safeguarding, Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), Pupil Premium and Sports Premium.
Finance and staffing Committee meet once a term to discuss and agree the annual budget and monitor expenditure throughout the year to ensure the school is financially secure and the money is well spent and focused on the achievement and wellbeing of all pupils. The committee is also reasonable for agreeing staffing structures including the salary policy.
Premises Committee meet once a term to focus on the condition of the building and grounds both inside and outside. The committee also reviews and plans premises spending to make sure that the funds are spent sensibly to maintain the buildings and furniture.
Link Governors: There are specific link governors for special education needs and disability, safeguarding, pupil premium and our school Council. This year we have also introduced link governors for all subjects to improve governance within the curriculum and develop school leadership.
